At Beech Green, we believe that children are always entitled to good quality education, even when isolating at home. Our home learning platform aims to deliver quality lessons using Office365 and Teams. Our home learning has been developed around the following principles:
The mental health and wellbeing of the children and their families will be at the forefront of all that we do;
Children will be given opportunities for learning new content in English and Maths, as well as deliberate rehearsal of prior learning;
Whilst the main focus will be on English and maths, there will be opportunities for topic related learning at home;
Parents will not be asked to teach new content – where appropriate, videos will be sent to the children, with teaching staff modelling new learning;
Learning will aim to engage and motivate children and be accessible to all;
A sense of belonging is important for our children: whilst lessons will not be “taught live”, there will be regular opportunities for them to meet with their class “Team” through online “check in” meetings, building on the strong foundations of our Beech Green community.
Our secure home learning platform will make use of Microsoft Teams to share teaching videos, resources and ideas. Activities undertaken by the children will be a mix of online quizzes, free writing activities and practical tasks. There will be no expectation for parents to print out resources for their children to use at home. The lessons delivered online will match what is being (or would be, in the case of year group isolation) delivered in school.
Children will be expected to take part in daily English and Maths lessons, and lessons related to their year group topic will be shared during the week. So that the children can keep in touch with their class teachers and their friends, classes will hold a weekly online meeting if their “bubble” is not in school.
To access the Home Learning Platform, visit https://teams.microsoft.com and log in with your child’s user name and password. This can be found on the letter sent home at the end of Term 1, on the sticker in your child’s reading record or on the sticker on your home learning stationery pack.
At Beech Green, we recognise that many parents may not have access to the technology at home to enable their child to engage in the home learning. We would encourage any family who are experiencing difficulties with this to phone or email the school so that we can put support in place to help them.
