Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers
We believe that strong partnerships with parents and carers are essential to children's success. Parents and carers know their child best, and by working together we can provide the consistency, encouragement and support they need to thrive. We use Tapestry to share children's learning, the vocabulary we are developing, any misconceptions we have identified and ideas for how learning can be supported and extended at home.
We value open and honest communication, keeping parents and carers informed about their child's progress, celebrating their achievements and sharing any areas where they may need further support. By working together, we can build on children's strengths, address gaps in learning and ensure that every child receives the right support to make progress and develop as a confident, happy learner.
Throughout the year, we provide a range of opportunities for parents and carers to share in and celebrate their child's exciting learning journey. Our family events are designed to strengthen relationships between home and school, while giving families the opportunity to experience and enjoy learning alongside their children.
Our Christmas Workshop brings families together to create Christmas crafts, share festive activities and enjoy watching the children perform Christmas songs. Through our Secret Reader sessions, family members surprise the children by visiting school to share their favourite stories and poems, creating special moments and nurturing a love of reading. Our open sessions invite parents and carers into the classroom to celebrate their child's progress. At the Puppet workshops, families work together to create puppets and bring favourite stories to life through retelling and imaginative play.
These opportunities complement our parent meetings, written reports and Tapestry group posts, ensuring that families are kept informed about their child's development throughout the year. We value these shared experiences and believe that when children see their families taking an active interest in their learning, it helps them to feel proud, valued and excited about their achievements.
Visits and Visitors
At Beech Green, we believe that children learn best when they can experience, explore and connect their learning to the real world. Throughout the year, we invite visitors from our local community to bring the curriculum to life. 'Visits from the police, dentist, Tesco Community Champion and Reverend Mark from St James’ Church provide authentic opportunities for children to ask questions, develop vocabulary and make meaningful connections with their learning.
We also use carefully chosen experiences to enrich and extend our curriculum. ‘Little City’ Role Play provides an exciting way to bring our ‘Who Helps Me?’ learning to life. Our visit to Redwood Outdoor Learning Centre complements and extends our school-based Forest School sessions, giving children further opportunities to develop confidence, independence, physical skills and a deeper connection with the natural world.
